How I work


In my hands, your message won’t simply be translated or edited. I’ll rebuild it in Spanish or Catalan from the ground up, respecting its essence every step of the way. To make that happen, I make conscious decisions, do all the research necessary, and carefully review every single detail of your text. I give every project the time and energy it deserves, and offer you solutions tailored to your specific needs, never adding any unnecessary extras.

Translation

Do you translate into any language?
I only translate into my mother tongues: European Spanish and Catalan. That’s because the key to producing good translations is to know the target language (the language you’re translating into) back to front.

What are your specialist fields?
Literature, tourism, education and communication.

What literary genres do you specialise in?
I mainly translate children’s and young adult fiction, fantasy, romance and thrillers.

Editing and proofreading

What’s the difference between proofreading and stylistic editing?
Proofreading focuses on linguistic issues: spelling, grammar, punctuation and formatting.
Stylistic editing is about improving a text’s rhythm, coherence and flow, always respecting its essence.

Do you review texts that have already been translated?
Yes. I offer revision and quality control for translations done by third parties, whether that’s a human, a machine translation tool, or AI.

Do you review texts that have already been published?
I always recommend getting help before publication, but I’m happy to assess your text and advise you.

Do you change the author’s style?
Never. I’m not here to make changes to your voice, I’m here to strengthen it. I improve the text’s clarity and coherence, without taking anything away from your personal writing style.

How do I know what kind of editing my text needs?
Send me the text, and we’ll assess the different options, taking your aims, audience, timeframe, and budget into account.

Timeframes and organisation

When should I get in touch?
If you already have a rough idea of when the text will be ready, get in touch. The sooner we establish the project timeframes and scope, the better we’ll be able to plan out the process.

How long does it take to translate a text?
That depends on the word count, and its complexity. Translation involves careful reading, researching and revision, and quality always comes before speed. We’ll agree on realistic deadlines before getting started.

Do you accept urgent jobs?
Yes, provided my schedule permits and the limited timeframe won’t have a negative impact on quality.

Do you accept short jobs?
Yes, I work with texts of all shapes and sizes, from translating an 800-page novel to editing a 50-word flyer. If it’s important to you, it’s important to me.

Quotes

What do you need to put together a quote?
The full text or a sample that represents it well, the approximate word count and any other details you think relevant.

How do you calculate the quote?
It depends on the word count, the work involved, the text’s complexity and the timeframe.

Workflow

Do you work alone or as part of a team?
I take care of every project personally. If the word count or urgency calls for it, I can bring other trustworthy professionals on board (always with your permission), but I always take care of the final review.

Do you collaborate with traditional publishers?
Yes, I work with publishers and printers. I adapt to your workflows, follow your style guides and keep up fluid communication throughout the project.

Do you collaborate with independent authors?
Yes, I work with independent authors. I’ll advise you on planning, put together a schedule for delivery in instalments, and will be in touch regularly so you always know what stage we’re at and can participate in the process if you’d like to.

What happens after delivery?
I’m available to answer any questions you have, discuss any changes or make small edits. My involvement in the process doesn’t come to an end when I deliver your text, I’m still available for whatever you need.

Confidentiality

How do you guarantee confidentiality?
For me, total discretion is the name of the game, and I treat all the texts I work with as confidential material. I never share excerpts or references without your express consent.

Do you sign NDAs?
Yes, if you’d like me to, I can sign an NDA before receiving the text.
